Welcome
to Tassajara Hills' website. This is just a snapshot of the vibrant
and stimulating 720 student California Distinguished School and
California Fine Arts Distinguished School.
Tassajara Hills offers an environment that is caring, safe, supportive,
interactive, and nurturing, both physically and emotionally. A
"Life Skills" program and a "Talk it Out" program are both integrated
into the ongoing fabric of the school's structure. We respect
and value diversity. We encourage parent involvement. We strive
towards an environment where children and adults look forward
to coming, feel welcome, feel they belong, feel supported, feel
respected, and enjoy being on a regular basis.
Tassajara Hills' academic program is standards based where we
strive to help all children meet or exceed State and District
content standards. Using differentiated teaching strategies our
fully credential teachers tailor their instruction to meet the
educational needs of each child from the lowest to the highest,
recognizing that not all children learn the same way, nor do all
teachers teach in the same manner. We set high standards for all
students and look for ways to help every child succeed as we see
the talent and potential in each and every one of them. There
is much collaboration amongst grade level teachers and support
staff to develop achievable, developmentally appropriate learning
opportunities which are applicable to real life experiences. At
the same time we train students to take on more responsibility
for their own learning, to set goals, assess their progress, and
to see learning as a lifelong process.
Tassajara Hills is fortunate to have the following specialists
and support staff: fulltime science teacher, fulltime music teacher,
Spanish prep. teachers, P.E. teacher, media coordinator/librarian,
technology specialist, a full Special Ed. department consisting
of Resource Specialists, speech specialist, psychologist, and
other specialists depending upon student's IEP's, a one day a
week counselor through the local "Discovery" Center, and classroom
paraeducators completely paid by parent donations through the
Tassajara Hills Foundation. Our parent community is actively involved
through PTA, Foundation, School Site Council, Technology Committee,
in the classrooms, and on many ad hoc committees.
If you were to visit Tassajara Hills you would see a school where
children appear happy while on task and learning, where there
is a balance of activities including field trips and many fine
arts productions, where parents are actively involved in classrooms
and other supportive functions, and an organized but active environment
where children come first.
