TASSAJARA HILLS LIBRARY BOOK COLLECTION | GUIDED READING CHART

Welcome to the Tassajara Hills Library-Media Center!

Open daily from 9:00 until 3:00 the library provides students with a wide choice of fiction and non-fiction books and periodicals for checkout during classroom visits. Our collection’s focus is supporting the elementary curriculum and providing students with a wide range of reading materials of interest to elementary students. Our very active and busy library circulates 4500-5500 books a month during the school year. Many parent volunteers assist on a regular basis in the efficient running of this busy school site.

Check out policies vary by grade level as follows: Kindergarten students check out 1 book weekly; 1st grades check out 2 books weekly; 2nd graders check out 2 books; 3rd graders 3 books, 4th graders may choose 4 books and 5th graders may check out up to 5 books. All students are encouraged to have at least one book at their reading level and another free choice or “for fun” title. Books are due weekly for return or renewal. Students with overdue books are encouraged to look for books they’d like to check out when theirs are returned. Students may be required to write their own overdue notices as a helpful reminder to themselves and their families. We do email overdue notices home thus avoiding lost messages home.

Tassajara Hills library uses the web based Destiny library management program. Similar to the public libraries system, students can link to the library via the Internet, either from school or at home. Students are able to explore the library collection, link to age appropriate websites on our home page and create booklists of desired books in anticipation of their library visit. Students are being introduced and trained during their scheduled library visits.

The San Ramon Valley Reading and Writing program is a major focus of our language arts teaching. To help students and families find books at the appropriate reading level as assessed by their teachers we have created a chart that will help you find books from our library using the many & different  reading program measurements.  In our library catalog reading levels are provided using the following programs:   Accelerated Reading, Lexile levels, Reading Counts and Fountas & Pinnell. This chart will help students translate these programs reading levels to the school’s reading program color coded system. Print the chart for a quick reference at home.

Use this handy Guided Reading Chart (link above) to help you find a library book that is just right for you. In our library reading levels are provided using the following programs: Reading Counts, Accelerated Reading and Lexile levels. This chart will help students translate these programs reading levels to the New York Reading’s color coded system. Print the chart for a quick reference at home.
